The oldest and
arguably the largest gaming convention in the world. While there are
larger conventions, this one is the grand-daddy of them all, focusing the
majority of the convention on games of all types, rather than being focused as a
media convention. It's has a few spin-offs and imitators over the years,
but is still considered the king of its kind. Due to our limited budget
(we give this stuff away free you know) this is the only convention we
personally attend each year to personally run games of Immortal Invisible War.
The convention starts on a Thursday morning (one or two games start as early at
12:00 AM, but most start around 8:00 AM) and ends Sunday around 4:00 PM.
For more information about Gen Con, the Indiana Convention Center and the
surrounding area (including hotel information, what to do between games, etc.),
as well as to register to come to the convention, please visit
www.gencon.com.
A 4-day badge
can be obtained by registering at the website ahead of time and costs around
$68.00 USD. Event tickets are $2.00 USD per 2 hours that the event runs (a
4-hour event will therefore cost $4.00 USD). Hotels run an average of
$150.00 USD per night (but you can easily put more than one person in
a hotel room to split the cost). If you are driving or flying or even
taking the train those costs vary. Indianapolis is a convention town, so
there are lots of restaurants and a few other attractions available. Food
in the convention center is a bit pricey, just like at any club, sports stadium,
etc. But food around town goes for all the price ranges you'd expect;
there is a mall about two - three blocks from the convention center with a very
large food court area.
We run our
Immortal events alongside Infinite Imaginations, Inc. They are one of the
longest-running gaming organizations that host games at Gen Con and we are proud
to be a part of their team for the convention each year. You can find out
a little bit more about Infinite Imaginations by
visiting their website.
IMMORTAL HIMSATI - RIPPEROLOGY CALLING
Description:
Trip your way into the past as the council sends you back to London in the late
1880’s. Will you raid Buckingham, rumble on the Bridge or dance with the devil
in Whitechapel? After escorting the likes of Darwin, Marx, Tesla and Freud let
Dr. Jekyll show you the real London Underground. Characters provided or bring
your own 3rd Edition character (created for modern day, not 1880’s London).
Rules-light and improv-heavy: role playing stressed.
This game is done in the
Live Action style (or as we call it "Diceless Theatre") with quick and easy
to use rules, relying mostly on role playing and rules-light. It is done
in a style similar to Live Action Role Playing (LARP) games but using the "One
Camera" System to focus on particular events during the game.
IMMORTAL HIMSATI - NEW HAVEN
CHRONICLES
Description:
Having rescued one of their own from the Thule Society and their immortal
masters, our heroes return home to New Haven. But their ancient enemies aren’t
done with them yet; can our young heroes summon the power to protect their own
hometown when the bad guys come knocking? Now in its 4th year, characters
provided, rules-light, and RP is stressed. Visit our website to download the
free core rulebooks for Players and Narrators alike!
This game will be played
using standard 3rd Edition rules (standard RPG format), with minimal use of
optional and advanced rules from the Narrator's Guide, for time allotted per
convention format. This event runs two times during the convention.
All events are being held in the Crowne Plaza
/ Union Station buildings, accessible from the back end of the Convention Center
/ RCA Dome (as shown to the right) via the skywalk system. You'll find
that about half of the events at Gen Con are not actually held in the Convention
Center but also at the surrounding hotels and facilities within one to two
blocks of the main convention center building. Nearly all locations are
accessible via the skywalk system.
Most events use the same entrance located
between the Crown Plaza part of the building and the Union Station part of the
building (a massive skywalk connects to the two parts). The main entrance
is at ground level right at the massive skywalk area that connects to the two
parts. The actual train station area no longer sits in the Union Station
part of the building, the
main area is now used as a grand ballroom and banquet hall. Please note
that Gen Con LLC makes it clear they can change event locations if needed.
It is best to check back here within a few days of the convention and check the
convention program book when you get onsite in case there are any last-minute
changes made by the convention staff that we don't get time to inform you of.

Here is a picture of Union
Station looking from the Southeast corner of the Omni Severin building,
the entrance is around the corner on the West (right) side of the
building. Note the large circular stained glass window in the
middle of the building |
The entrance; notice the skywalk just behind the entrance connecting the
Union Station part to the Crowne Plaza part. Do not cross the
street to the Crowne Plaza entrance.
If you notice the semi-circular area.. the 2nd
floor windows are the Lincoln Room for the LARP. |

Here is a picture of the ballroom/banquet hall looking down from one of
the balconies, standing near the giant circular stained glass window as
shown in the first picture. When you enter Pennsylvania B & C will
most likely be located on the 2nd floor up near the large circular
stained glass window. If you look at the
upper right of this picture - That is the Lincoln Room for the LARP
there on the 2nd floor, stairs to get there are just out of this
picture's sight at the lower right. |
